Sizing an Extraction Fan for a Workshop or Industrial Site

What Size Extraction Fan Does Your Site Need?

Workshop and factory extraction fans are sized differently to kitchen exhaust fans — the priority is fume, dust, or heat removal rather than grease capture.

Key Factors for Workshop Fan Sizing

  • Room volume: for general ventilation, aim for enough airflow to achieve 6-10 air changes per hour, more for spaces with welding, spraying, or heavy dust
  • Point-source extraction: if fumes come from a specific process (welding bay, spray booth), a smaller high-velocity fan positioned close to the source is more effective than a large general extract fan
  • Duct run length: longer duct runs and more bends increase resistance, meaning you may need a larger fan than room size alone suggests

Our Range for Industrial Sites

We supply the S&P TCBB and TCBBX2 axial fan ranges (355mm-630mm) for workshop and light industrial extraction, alongside our economy axial and plate fan options for smaller spaces. All fans are supplied with matching speed controllers so airflow can be adjusted to the actual site conditions rather than running at full output constantly.

Send us your room dimensions and process type and we'll recommend the right fan size and speed controller for your site.
