Not every company that sells extraction canopies actually manufactures them. Here's what to ask before you commit.
1. Do You Manufacture In-House?
Ask whether the canopy is fabricated on-site or imported from a third party. In-house manufacturing (like our Birmingham workshop) means custom sizing is possible and lead times are shorter.
2. What Standard Is It Built To?
A properly specified commercial canopy should be manufactured in accordance with DW172, the UK standard for kitchen ventilation. If a supplier can't confirm this, that's a red flag for compliance inspections later.
3. What Grade and Thickness of Steel?
Ask specifically — 430 grade at 0.7mm is standard for most kitchens; 304 grade is available for higher corrosion resistance. Vague answers like "good quality steel" aren't a specification.
4. How Is It Welded?
Laser-welded seams with 316-grade stainless filler wire give a fully sealed, grease-tight finish. Ask how joints are sealed — poorly sealed seams are where grease and moisture cause long-term problems.
5. Can They Support Installation?
A local fabricator can typically offer installation guidance or on-site support that an importer cannot.
If a fabrication company can answer all five questions specifically, you're likely dealing with a genuine manufacturer rather than a reseller.
